Dun Aonghusa - Where It All Began
Photo:
Dun Aonghusa (Aengus) - The Fort of Chieftain Aonghus, and historic
birthplace of the "Hennesy" and "McGinnis" names. This fort was built around 900 b.c.
and was inhabited until about 500 a.d.. O'Aonghusa is the Gaelic form
of O'Hennesy, which our Hennesy name was formerly known as. Chieftain
Aonghus was a member of a Scythian tribe known as Fir Bolgs. The Fir
Bolgs were exploited as farm slaves to the Greeks in biblical times.
Chieftain Aonghus and many other Fir Bolgs escaped the Greeks and
settled in the British Isles where they were later driven to the
Atlantic coast of Ireland and the Aran Islands during Celtic and Norse
attacks. Over time, the Aonghus tribe and other Scythian tribes
eventually disbanded and dispersed among the new Celt and Norse
inhabitants of the Aran and British Islands.

Relics From The Past
While visiting with my mother and her side of my family last year, I got
to see my cousin, Captain Jimmy Allee. After a few minutes of
ciphering, we figured that we hadn't seen each other since the Allee
reunion in 1977. I was only 13 years old in '77 and didn't recall
much other than the running, playing and swimming that my cousins and I
did while at Uncle Cecil's house at Marble Falls. I do remember
seeing Jimmy then and I could pick him out from the reunion pictures.
Boy did we all look different way back then.
Jimmy brought with him an old wooden box that contained several old
relics that belonged to my grandfather, John Chandler "Pop" Allee.
We all gathered around in amazement as we unpacked the box.
Below are the pictures of these relics and the little information that I
know of them. If anyone has pictures and/or information of family
relics, please let me know, I will gladly add them to this site for all
to see.
J. C. "Pop" Allee would have been 133 years old on November 29th.

It is possible that this
watch belonged to either William M. Allee, or possibly John
Knowlton Chandler. |

Unfortunately, the watch
is not in working order, but parts are still available and it
can be repaired. |
